- Description AlcoScreen Saliva Alcohol Test AlcoScreen is a rapid, highly sensitive method to detect the presence of alcohol in saliva and provide an approximation of relative blood alcohol concentration. Since it is well established that the concentration of alcohol in saliva is very close to that in the blood, saliva is the preferred specimen for alcohol testing. Saliva allows for greater detection sensitivity than breath testing methods. AlcoScreen is a very simple, one-step, 2 minute test. The test requires no instrumentation, calibration or special training to be used effectively. Furthermore, it is convenient enough to be used any time and any place. Convenient Use the AlcoScreen any time and any place. Each test is individually wrapped and completely disposable. Economical AlcoScreen greatly reduces the time and cost associated with other single and multiple use alcohol testing methods. Sensitive The relationship between the amount of saliva alcohol and blood alcohol is 1:1 while with breath it is .000048:1. This makes saliva a more sensitive testing medium than breath. Versatile In addition to testing alcohol in saliva, the AlcoScreen can detect the presence of alcohol in other fluids. Abstain from placing anything in the mouth for fifteen (15) minutes prior to beginning the test. This includes non-alcoholic drinks, tobacco products, coffee, breath mints, food, etc 2. Open the foil package and remove the test strip. Observe the reactive pad on the end of the test strip. The pad should be a light cream color. However, a test strip with a regent pad which is dark tan color or otherwise discolored must be discarded. 3. Saturate the reactive pad end of stick with saliva from mouth or sputum cup. Immediately start timer. Remove test pad/stick from mouth and wait two minutes. 4. At two minutes observe the color changes (if any) in the reactive pad. A color change of green or blue indicates the presence of alcohol, hence a positive result. Results obtained after more than 2 minutes and 30 seconds may be erroneous. Compare test pad with the color chart printed on the back panel of foil package. Within 15 seconds choose the closest color match to estimate the alcohol concentration. Interpretation: Negative – No color change on reactive pad. Positive – Reactive pad changes color in 2 minutes. **Legal limit varies according to location.
